Marco quits Hell’s Kitchen

Marco Pierre White

It’s fair to say the current series of Hell’s Kitchen hasn’t exactly set the world alight, and now the ITV celebrity love-in has spiralled further out of control with the news that sulky head chef Marco Pierre White has decided to quit TV.

“He’s ready to throw in the towel now,” said an insider, presumably referring to the greasy piece of cloth the gruff celebrity chef ties round his head. “He’s had enough. ITV have offered him opportunities to present other shows, but he’s not interested. Marco doesn’t need the money and he never set out to acquire fame.”

Yorkshire-born Marco took over from potty-mouthed predecessor Gordon Ramsay back in 2007. At the time he claimed he was keen to change the way the public perception of chefs as foul-mouthed, ill-tempered thugs.

“He took part in Hell’s Kitchen for the past few years because he felt that certain celebrity chefs portrayed the role badly,” continued the source. “He hated the idea of kitchens being run by bullies. He knows he shouts too, but he doesn’t believe it’s necessary to scream and swear all the time to gain control.”

The 47-year-old superchef is now expected to focus on running his restaurants and spending more time with his three kids. The show’s bosses have so far remained tight-lipped about whether the show will come back next year, and if so who will replace Marco. Is the return of Ramsay on the cards? We wouldn’t f***ing rule it out.
